The evolution of a volunteer story
Joy Reid is a distinguished broadcaster and charity CEO. She co-founded the award-winning charity One Mother to Another after her own experience of having a child in hospital – a small act of care that has grown into a vital support network now helping more than 7,000 Kiwi families navigate hospital stays and mental health crises each year.
Before dedicating herself fully to the not-for-profit sector, Joy spent two decades at the forefront of New Zealand media. As a Senior Broadcast Journalist for TVNZ including as Europe Correspondent based in London, she covered defining global events – from royal milestones to international crises and the 2011 Christchurch earthquake – earning a reputation for clarity and composure under pressure.
Today, Joy brings that same storytelling precision to her leadership and speaking. What began with just ten care packages has evolved into a powerful volunteer movement – many of whom are former care pack recipients. Joy speaks about how through shared empathy, volunteering has become part of many healing stories – including her own.
