Introduction
Orange Sky is the world’s first mobile laundry and shower service that operates all around Australia and New Zealand.
With over 4,000 volunteers, Orange Sky enables their ‘friends’ to enjoy clean clothing, a hot shower and meaningful conversations for anyone experiencing homelessness and hardship.
Volunteers range from community engagement coordinators, service leaders, team leaders to vehicle drivers as well as their on shift volunteers who are there to help the community.
The Challenge
With a wide range of volunteer roles spread across multiple locations, Orange Sky needed a volunteer management solution that could deliver a consistent experience regardless of location, while also streamlining onboarding for both administrators and volunteers. By implementing Rosterfy, Orange Sky sought to create customised, role-specific onboarding journeys that reduced administrative effort rather than adding to it.
As volunteer team leaders are also responsible for onboarding and managing volunteers on the ground, Orange Sky required a user-friendly system that empowered volunteers and enabled team leaders to seamlessly integrate them as an extension of their team.

The Results
Since implementing Rosterfy Orange Sky has seen a significant reduction in admin across the following areas:
- Consolidation of tools: Prior to using Rosterfy, Orange Sky were using multiple systems to manage their volunteers. Now everything can be done within Rosterfy, from communications, to scheduling and training, saving valuable time but also ensuring a better volunteer experience.
- Automated role specific onboarding: With multiple roles all with varying onboarding and training requirements, Rosterfy can now automatically onboard volunteers throughout the country consistently whilst ensuring compliance.
- A single source of truth: When volunteers register with Orange Sky they have a central volunteer account meaning that if they move locations, they can just change their preferences and start volunteering in a new area without having to redo all their inductions and training. In addition to this all of their volunteering time is recorded no matter their movements.
- Custom brand: Operating in Australia and New Zealand, Orange Sky enjoy that they can create custom brand personalities across their various locations.

The Impact
Orange Sky have utilised Rosterfy to better understand the impact of their volunteers. At the end of each shift, they’re capturing not only who did and didn’t attend but also, how many washes they were able to facilitate, how many people had hot showers, which has enabled them to quantify the impact that they’re having in their community but is also being used to drive their decision making to ensure that they’re showing up in the right places.
