NZ WEBINAR SERIES

Building inclusive communities through one-to-one volunteering with IHC

Rosterfy is hosting a Lunch and Learn series where expert guest speakers share valuable insights on volunteer management, recruitment, engagement, and retention. Each session will explore common challenges and provide practical strategies to build more engaging and flexible volunteer programs.

Hear from Brigit Bowron. Brigit is the Programme Lead for Counties and Auckland Central West at IHC New Zealand, a leading organisation supporting people with intellectual disabilities. She focuses on building meaningful community connections through IHC’s friendship programs, both in-person and online — helping to foster inclusion and lasting relationships across Aotearoa. Brigit has also been a dedicated Make-A-Wish Foundation volunteer since 2005, helping deliver over 100 wishes to Kiwi children with critical illnesses.

NZ LUNCH AND LEARN WEBINAR SERIES

Building inclusive communities through one-to-one volunteering with IHC

Host: Kelsey Mulcahy, Volunteer Systems Specialist at Rosterfy

Guest: Brigit Bowron, Programme Lead for Counties and Auckland Central West at IHC New Zealand

Date: Tue, 4 November 2025

Time: 12:00PM - 12:30PM NZST

Webinar Overview: This session we are joined by Brigit Bowron from IHC to explore the power of one-to-one volunteer relationships that create lasting social connections, build life skills, and transform both participants and volunteers.

IHC's one-to-one program matches a person with an intellectual disability to a volunteer who shares their interests — creating friendships that often last years. Volunteers commit for 12 months, but many stay much longer because of the genuine bonds they form. We'll also discuss the skill-based model, where volunteers work alongside a person to achieve a specific goal — like learning to catch a bus or developing a creative skill. These shorter-term (2–3 month) partnerships empower people with disabilities to build confidence and independence, while giving volunteers a meaningful, tangible impact experience.

Even if your organisation doesn’t run one-to-one programs, this session will offer practical insights into volunteer engagement, inclusion, and program design that can be applied to any setting — helping volunteers feel more connected, valued, and impactful. Join the discussion on how a relationship-based approach to volunteering can transform engagement, boost retention, and build genuine inclusion — offering fresh ideas any organisation can adapt to create more meaningful, lasting impact.
